Magaj
From: £14.00
A truly indulgent treat, hand mixed and cooked to the right amount of its golden colour, garnished with wholesome almonds and pistachios that are blended for an even crunch.
What is Magaj?
Magaj is highly pleasant to the taste. This sweet is favourite amongst all age groups and no doubt, your kids will love it – best of both worlds. Magaj is traditionally made during occasions such as diwali, however, can be served at any occasion from weddings to parties. Magaj is also called Magaj Squares, Magaj Ladoo or Basan Barfi.
The sweet aroma that fills the house when cooking the ingredients with the homemade desi ghee makes a joyous occasion in itself. Eating the hearty snack is another – take a bite of it and feel it melting in your mouth as it crumbles away. Yummm…
A delectable Gujarati sweet snack which is so comforting and energising to the body. Similar to the benefits of Methi Pak, this Gujarati refreshment has ingredients that are abundant with health benefits including: as a winter tonic, energy booster, new mums and lactation.
My late father in law who came from Myanmar taught me how to make this delicious recipe. I still use the same recipe and method today. Everyone loves it and there has been no complaints. It works a lovely treat with everyone. Just like my father in law would and to this day – I don’t use an electric whisk or stand mixer. His famous words, “Cooking with hand brings out the best flavour in all dishes”.
What is Magaj also known as?
Magaj in Gujarati means brain.
The most common name is Magaz or Magas.
Also termed as besan ka Ladoo and Magaj.
On Wikipedia, Magas is a capital town of republic of Ingushetia in Russia.
Magaj is also an offal dish which was made in Pakistan, Bangladesh and india. It is made from the brain of a cow, goat or sheep with gravy. Do not confuse the two.

Flavours and crunchiness is perfect.
Sis Jzk for the magaj.
Some feedback if I may… Allhamdullillah it’s very tasty.. I love the almonds and pistachios all mixed in crushed nicely and lovely taste. Flavour everything is great.. I think maybe a touch less sweeter would be better.. maybe a couple of table spoons or so less sugary .. otherwise absolutely perfect.
I gave half to my dad and I’ve kept half. Dad liked it too Allhamdullillah.
My son and husband tasted magaj too and they liked it . So mashallah well done.

A great service keeping alive Indian traditions in the UK
Growing up in a Gujarati family our home was nearly always filled with chewro, sev, gathiya, magaj and in the winter methi paak and more. I also loved the Indian traditions of using food to supplement health post birth/ surgery and other food linked remedies to give strength and energy where needed using Ayurvedic principles.
It’s so great to see startups like @indiansnack_21 creating these goodies and scaling up to provide a nationwide delivery option to share with everyone. We were lucky enough to receive a taster pack from the team.
We received the below;
Magaj – a sweet halva made with gram flour, ghee and sugar or ghor
Methi paak – a winter tonic to preserve good health and strong backs – made from fenugreek powder which provides the slightly bitter flavour. My dad enjoyed this and gave it a thumbs up.
Aradyu – another sweet dish made with Adad flour, singoda flour and gram flour. Singoda is also great for good back health and is often used postpartum to support recovery.
Goondar paak – another sweet dish which is often used to bring thandak (coolness) to the body.
Naankhatai – buttery shortbread biscuits with nutmeg -an absolute classic in any Indian household
Chewro – (commonly known in the UK as Bombay Mix) this was yummy and didn’t last long at all in the house.
A great service keeping alive Indian traditions in the UK.
Overall this care package filled with all the goodies was just so yummy & delicious
We were kindly gifted these traditional sweet and savoury snacks including:
Magaj – a treat cooked in desi ghee with nuts (almonds &pistachios ) , wholesome and rich . Had just the right amount of sweetness and crunch in it and was a favourite!
Gunder pak – traditional gutrati winter treat with dates &coconut flakes . Beneficial for adults ,kids and mothers. It has many health benefits ie boosts energy ,stamina , helps with joint pain and backache. A nutritious snack perfect with a glass of warm milk.
Naan khatai – needs no introduction… a bite and a crunch says it all. I literally loved this fresh n crispy biscuit dipped in my tea . Highly addictive.
Karachi biscuits – pinwheel biscuits with soft coconut filling . These were buttery n melt in the mouth. Perfectly salty like the ones commonly found in local karachi bakeries.
Chewdo – It was fresh n crunchy. A perfect tea time snack with cashews, peanuts, sultanas ,corn poha ,ricepoha .
Overall this care package filled with all the goodies was just so yummy & delicious. There was something for everyone in it .. including snacks and savouries.

Traditional Recipes for Gujarati sweets and savouries have been passed through generations
In search of authentic homemade Indian snacks? Well you’ve come to the right post @indiansnack_21 have kindly gifted me a selection of their Indian (Gujarati) snacks!
Let me start of by first giving a short background info about the person behind this business:
@indiansnack_21 has always been inspired by her late mother who had a passion for Indian cooking. Her homemade snacks would bring so much joy in the family.
Traditional Recipes for Gujarati sweets and savouries have been passed through generations.
Unfortunately the tradition is beginning to fade away; as people who want authentic homemade snacks are instead buying readily available but factory made products.
@indiansnack_21 therefore wanted to bring back what her late mother taught her: the real taste of Gujarati snacks; using high quality ingredients!
I received the following:
Magaj, Methi Pak, Aradyu, Chewro and Gundar Pak
If I had to pick a favourite then it would be Chewro. Such a lovely mixture of nuts and other ingredients infused together which was loved by all. The Aradyu was also really nice. You could taste the flavours of the ingredients coming through.
My least favourite were the Magaj and Methi. Both tasted quite bitter and overpowering probably due to the elachi powder.
Overall, the best thing about these homemade snacks is that they (excl. chevdo) actually have some nutritional benefits. Makes one feel less guilty of consuming mithai.
Once again, thank you so much @indiansnack_21 for wanting me to review your products.
Would you like to try sorne? Well guess what!!
@indiansnack_21 have kindly offered not 1 but 100 customers a generous 10% discount for LIFE!
Yes you’ve read, their first 100 customers will benefit from a 10% discount FOREVER!
So are you still having second thoughts of ordering…
